3 Ways To Encourage Good Team Dynamics
A leader always wants to believe that their team is working at the top of their game 24/7. However, in reality, that is not the case.
Your job is to identify the stressors, issues, and obstacles facing your team that are causing them to work inconsistently or incohesively.
Many factors can cause discombobulation and disconnect within a team that can cause a rift in team dynamics.
It could be a change in the company, new job roles, additional work, a hard project, a team member out sick: anything could lead to a rift in the team dynamics.
So what can you do to help encourage good team dynamics? We’ve got some tips and advice.
Here at MVision Consulting, we are led by founder and coach Dr. Marc Camras. Marc has been working with companies large and small for decades by providing workshops for leadership and team building. You can review our previous article, “How can my business benefit from leadership coaching?” for additional insight.
Marc has helped major companies like Honda, and large non-profit organizations like Make-A-Wish hone in on their leadership skills and set them up for success.
So if you’re looking for a few ways to encourage good team dynamics or if you’re looking to prevent a rift in your team dynamics, keep reading!
Identify The Stressors
How do you know what to fix if you don’t know what’s causing the issue? Like we said above, multiple factors can play a role in the team dynamic struggle and it’s your job as a leader to identify those issues and resolve them.
The first step is to identify and assess the issues and work on what you, as the leader, can control and change and what issues need to be taken to the entire company to address. You’ve all got the shared goals of completing projects, working with clients and meeting deadlines, so it’s vital to find the chink in the armor that’s keeping you from succeeding to the fullest.
Communicate
You’ve heard this a thousand times, but communication is key! If you don’t know what is going on with your team, you’ll never be able to solve the problem. Sit down and talk with your team together and individually. Don’t evaluate their work; just talk. Gather ideas, encourage team communication and see if there are ways you can work more efficiently.
You are the beacon of your team, and if they don’t feel comfortable or trust talking to you about anything and everything, you won’t be able to understand what’s going on. So make it a point to be available for your team and gain their trust by allowing them to speak freely to you without fear of judgment or punishment.
Celebrate Success and Boost Morale
We often emphasize the failures and under-emphasize the wins.
It’s easy to do so when you are focused on success. Then, of course, you want to scrutinize the bad and find ways to improve, but what about your team’s victories and wins?
It’s important to celebrate success, no matter how small. Why? It boosts team morale and lets them know that they are valued and appreciated for their hard work.
So if you’ve had a good week or have closed a large project, make it known and find ways to celebrate!
