3 Ways To Build Team Culture
“Your team is the backbone of your business.” We’ve all heard that statement before. But your team is also the heartbeat and soul of your company as well.
The success and survival of your business depends on the unity and synergy of your team.
Like your body, when something isn’t working properly, you feel sick, sore, tired, and even unmotivated or depressed.
So what do you do when you’re not feeling well? Take care of yourself.
That’s exactly what you need to do with your team. And how do you do it? By investing in them.
We don’t mean by giving them gifts; we mean investing in them by creating a team culture that is inspiring, uplifting, and helpful. By doing so, your employees and your business will flourish and thrive.
Have you taken a moment to think about team culture? In the hustle and bustle of everyday business, it’s easy to forget about the small things that can propel your business further than you’d ever imagined.
Team Culture: Defined
If you haven’t already created your team culture, or even if you have, let’s develop it even further.
Team culture sets the expectations and drives your team to succeed. It sets the tones, attitudes, and workflow to build an overall healthy and productive environment. Review our past article, How To Create Growth Culture In Your Business, for further insight.
In order to create a strong team culture, you need to start with a foundation on which you can build. These are the pillars you will look to when a change or transition happens in the workplace and when you feel like your team culture needs to be reinvigorated.
Pillar 1: Authentic Communication
If your team can’t communicate with each other or executive management, you will never be able to reach any goals or deadlines.
Foster a healthy communicative environment by allowing authentic communication. This means that your team shouldn’t fear bringing up ideas or even talking about their current workload.
Backlash, toxicity, and drama can shut down a team faster than anything because it cuts off communication and starts a downward spiral of not wanting to communicate when necessary.
Pillar 2: Values
What are your values? Did you set core values when you started your business? Use those to build your team culture! For example, if your core values are integrity, innovation, and consistency, let those be the core values that define your team culture. Creating values sets the standard by which your team will work every day to ensure they are met.
Cohesiveness throughout your organization is key, and when you’ve got everything tied together, you’ll see the successful outcome.
Pillar 3: Trust
You’ve hired each member of your team for a reason. They have the knowledge, experience, and drive to get the job done, but are you allowing them to do it? Does the environment promote trust or micromanagement?
You must trust your team and give them the tools and resources they need to trust themselves. In a world where everyone is constantly second-guessing themselves, make it your mission to create a trusting environment where confidence thrives.
